Tips for Your New Born Session
The first few days after the birth of a baby are some the best days to capture your little one on film.  Here are a few tips to keep in mind as you prepare for your newborn photography session. Join our baby club today! Learn more.

Book as soon as possible after the baby has arrived
Newborns grow and develop quickly.  If you want stunning newborn photos, be sure to come in within the first 10 days, the sooner the better.  Babies start kicking and stretching about a week after birth which makes it more difficult to photograph them.

 Schedule your appointment for the morning
Babies are less colicky in the morning, so book your session for one of these times if possible.

 Plan for an hour and a half for your session
Allot enough time to enjoy the photo shoot. This is an invaluable day! Be prepared to enjoy it.
Mom and Dad should wear long sleeved black shirts.  
Babies frequently pee and poop during these sessions, so mentally prepare for this.  It is also a good idea to pack a change of clothes just in case. 

 Your baby will look best photographed in the nude
Don’t worry; we will make sure that your photos are always tasteful.  Clothing tends to look bulky on a tiny newborn and will take away from the photographs.

 Bring a babysitter, and snacks for the older siblings
If you plan on bringing siblings for this photo session be aware that while they are cute in these photos, they do take extra time and energy.  It is a good idea to bring a babysitter along to watch the kids when they aren’t being photographed.

 We keep our studio very warm
This is to help keep the baby comfortable.

 Feed your baby at our studio, before the shoot
Don’t feed your baby before you arrive; rather feed them once you get to the studio.  Feeding will comfort your baby in the new surroundings.

 You can bring heirloom pieces, such as a blanket or special rattle.

 Stay calm and relaxed
Enjoy this special day. 
Make sure that you remain calm and relaxed throughout the session.  Babies can smell their mother, so we may ask you to step away at certain times during the shoot.  This will help us get the best photos of your baby.

We generally use both parents as props in the photos.  Mom’s fingernails will show, so you may want to get them done before coming in.
